Madanji introduces and sings as he composes "Yeh Duniya Yeh Mehfil" (HEER RANJHA - 1970)...
a 5 minute video presentation

30 September 2011

Many a time, Madanji made a melody but the tune was not found suitable for any film situation and thus was kept a side for possible future use. So many such tunes remained unrecorded, some of which were used in VEER-ZAARA.

The tune of "Lagja Gale Se" (WOH KAUN THI) too was initially rejected by director Raj Khosla, and was finally recorded when he was cajoled by Madanji and Manoj Kumar that it would become a memorable song... imagine if that song had never been recorded!!

The tune for "Naina Barse Rim Jhim" was composed by Madanji in early 50's but never found appropriate till it became the theme song of WOH KAUN THI in 1964.

Similarly the tune of the hit song, "Yeh Duniya Yeh Mehfil" was composed by Madanji in the 50s, but found place in a film only when it was recorded for Chetan Anand's HEER RANJHA (released in 1970).

Madanji himself narrates the genesis of this memorable song from HEER RANJHA, and we also hear him composing the tune, many years back... the tune in his voice has slightly different notes and variations which he fine-tuned later based on the requirements of the situation in HEER RANJHA.

The song was finally penned by Kaifi Azmi and sung by Rafi Saab in his inimitable style, and is today considered among his biggest hits.

The song is also remembered for its differently composed antras and the various situational interlude pieces.

This 5 minute video presentation features Madanji's commentary, his composing of the tune as well as a portion of the finally recorded song.
