Mohd. Rafi Memorial Award to be posthumously awarded to Madanji

The 'Rafi Lovers Circle', Kolkata, has decided to posthumously honour Madanji by giving him the Mohd Rafi Memorial Award 2010 at an event in Kolkata on Sunday, 1 August 2010.

Rafi Saab, the undisputed music icon, and Madanji, the legendary composer, created many memorable melodies together... many of them will be remembered forever.

Among the 150 plus songs that Rafi Saab sang for Madanji are such immortal hits as Ab Tumhare Hawale Wattan Saathiyo, Yeh Duniya Yeh Mehfil, Tum Jo Mil Gaye Ho, Tumhari Zulf Ke Saye Mein, Meri Awaaz Suno, Kabhi Na Kabhi, Sawan Ke Mahine Mein, Rang Aur Noor Ki Baraat , Tu Mere Saamne Hai, Main Nigahen Tere Chehre Se, Aapke Pehloo Mein, Ek Haseen Shaam Ko, Yehi Hai Tamanna, Main Yeh Sochkar, Teri Aankhon Ke Siwa, Barbaad Mohabbat Ki Dua, Tere Dar Pe Aaya Hoon, Kaise Kategi Zindagi Tere Bagair, and so many others.


The Rafi Lovers Circle, has instated this award from 2005, and awards it to a music personality who has worked closely with Rafi Saab and his repertoire. Earlier recipients have included composer Ravi, singers Sharda, Mubarak Begum and a posthumous honour for Mahendra Kapoor.

The function will be held at the Satyajit Ray Auditorium, at the Indian Council Of Cultural Relations [ICCR] in Kolkata on 1 August, to mark Rafi Saab's death anniversary on 31 July.
